The woman behind KenKreates crochet art is Kendra Balans. Kendra is an energetic and colorful lover of all things artistic, including but not limited to visual art, fashion, music, performance art, and crafts. She has been an artist in all of these areas at different points throughout the course of her life.

 

She learned how to crochet at 10-years old and has practiced several crochet techniques since then. As of 2015, Kendra began working on crochet portraits and is thrilled to share this unique artform with the world.

 

Kendra's artistic direction is heavily influenced by her own experience as a Black woman and her work often includes, but is not limited to, the culture of Black excellence, Black expression and the Black experience in general.
